Starts a visit to the Al-Marj Public Prison

As part of series of visits to Prisons and Detention Centers

 

The Joint Team of the Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) has arrived to Al-Marj Public Prison Northern Cairo, aiming to conduct a long term program of visits to prisons and detention centers in Egypt, starts with Five prisons in the first phase.

The Joint Team consists of AOHR, the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR) and the Italian based organization “Hands off Cain”.

The today visits starts with meeting with Senior Officers of the Ministry of Interior’s Prisons Sector and Human Rights Sector, followed by a tour in the prison facilities, meetings with Prisoners, and identify the living conditions, services and Rehabilitation program.

The AOHR has submitted a formal request to the Ministry of Interior in Mid October 2019 to conduct a series of visits to prisons, and nominated Five Prisons, including the AL-Marj Public Prison, and received the approval to visit Al-Marj prison last week.

 The team is leaded by Mr. Alaa Shalaby, president of the AOHR, and Mr. Mohsen Awad, the AOHR Board Member, Ms. Nevine Mossaad, the AOHR Board Member, Mr. Issam Shiha, the AOHR Assembly Member and the SG of the EOHR, Ms. Elusabetta Zamprautti, the HOC Treasurer, Mr. Mohammed Rady, the AOHR Director, Mr. Eslam Abol-Enein, the AOHR Program Director, Mr. Ahmed Reda Tolba, the AOHR Legal Unit Director.

The AOHR expresses its thanks to both H.E Ministry of Interior and H.E Public Prosecutor for their approval to make this visit, and the AOHR looks forward to contribute in developing the prisons and detention centers conditions in Egypt to bring it in conformity with human rights national and international obligation.
